Below is my craft room this is where it all happens

I took a trip to Birmingham Friday with my friend Carole we went to Frank Nutts lovely sewing machine shop to pick up Carols new purchase.

Whilst I was in the shop I took time to drool over the lovely Bernina 830

and the new Janome Horizon 12000

I did try to convince Frank the shop owner to let me take the Janome home with me to see if I could get him some sales but he wasn't having any of it!
Shame I will just have to keep saving LOL
We were introduced to some of the lovely work that you can learn in one of Claire Muir Courses Classes that are available at the shop

Over the weekend I took time out to do a little digitising & machine embroidering I created this lovely china cup & saucer from one of my drawings, I digitised it & then stitched it out and it came out a treat the Size; is 161.8mm wide by 114.79mm high or 8”wide x 5” high approx.
I use Janome hoop RE(140x200) this will make a great little shabby cushion edged with some pretty co-ordinating fabric!

Twoooo water melons

This was the Christmas gift that had me wondering!

after a bit of present squeezing I came to the conclusion that my daughter had got me two large water melons for Christmas LOL

Oh yes and something long and hard but I will keep my thoughts to myself on that one

Look what was really in the package two of the biggest balls of wool I have ever seen along with mega sized knitting needles and a crochet hook to match

these needles remind me of those maxi pins we used to have in the 70's
SJ says you can knit rugs with wool & felt them in a hot wash!

I have finished my red work quilt!

Its not a huge one I opted for a small size 44" x 54"as I am inclined to lose interest very quickly and thought id better keep it small

well i thought this would be my winter project but i made it in just a couple of weeks.

I just got very engrossed and could not put it down it was quite addictive!

I am not a quilter so it may not be a masterpiece but I did enjoy making it

I ditch quilted around each seam and in the the red squares have put a quilted medallion in each one I then free hand stippled around the outer border to finish I made tape in the same fabric as the back.

I will be starting on my next one really soon

Redwork

This week I have been working on some Redwork

I thought I would start on a redwork quilt with embroidered squares edged with this wonderful fabric

called Redwork Rendevous by Alix Anderson

I thought I cauld work on it over the winter months and hopefully by spring I will have a redwork quilt!

I purchased a copy of a wonderful Japanese Redwork book that contained a pattern for a sweet little rework tea cozy the below image is a snap of two of the panels in the making

I am making it in the hoop on my sewing machine although the pattern was a hand embroidery pattern

I managed to digitize it so I could be really lazy and sew it by machine {:0)

It would be really nice to use for tea & scones on the lawn next summer!

I have been busy creating this little table runner

made from Moda Stars & Coxscombs quilted with runs of oak leaves

I just love Moda scrap bags they are so versitile you can make all sorts with them

although they are quite hard to find in the UK so have been buying them from America.

You American girls are so lucky you have the most wonderful fabric available to you.

the pillow below was made from some strips from a scrap bag of mostley Moda Garden Party fabric

and the Pattern I used was a free Moda Bake shop original Recipe and you keep the lovely printed selvage edges on the fabric & make a feture of them

Over the years of Blogging & using the Internet I have met some of the most wonderful talented ladies & also men each and every one of them inspires me with the wonderful crafts they create.

One of my long time contacts is my long distance friend Terry of Terry's Treasures

Now Terry Quilts & I have never quilted but terry got me wanting to try a quilt of my own.

Yes Terry you did & with not a word from me I endeavoured on my quest to make my first Quilt

And here she is not such a beauty

I know the seams do not quite line up perfectly and I used large easy pieces for my first attempt.

I would have loved to have quilted it all over but was nervous so I quilted along the squares edges & only stippled the brown patterned edge.

I love how it turned out and will cherish it forever,

I don't know how you quilters can part with the quilts you have made and put so much work into,

they almost become a part of you

like this one I made

a little out of shape & wobbly around the edges.

Pretty Lady Under Canvas Collage Sheet

The weather is really sunny here today the leaves are starting to turn Autumn shades & they look really lovely in the sun

We have an abundance of apples on the trees this year,

On Sunday I took full advantage of some lovely bramley cooking apples & made a great big apple & sultana crumble with lashings of creamy custard it went down & treat with the bowl being empty by the evening much to my disappointment when I fancied a helping whilst watching TV

The person that ate the last of the mega crumble neatly re covered the dish with the white muslin cloth & left just the spoon & a few crunchy bits stuck to the sides {:0( well I suppose it saved the waistline a little

I never did find out who ate it!

Wedding time

Hello all.
I am sorry for the big silence on my blog but things are hectic here at the moment my eldest son is getting wed on Friday 26 August and I have been up to my neck in all the goings on.
I have been decorating the house to get it looking good with a fresh coat of paint & Laura Ashley wallpaper & blinds,
Have had to make the table place cards for the reception & some banner flags to decorate the reception room.
had hair done yesterday got rid of all the grey {:0) I have tottered around the house on my mega high heeled wedding shoes hoping I can cope with them on the big day, I am only used of flat shoes & my good old wellington boots!
off to the city today to get hubby's and Sam's wedding suits from the hire company they will look very smart with their silk waistcoats & matching ties & pocket hankies.

1930's Vintage Quilt

Look what arrived in the post this morning all the way from the USA

Vintage quilt squares in the most delicious 1930's fabric. The back still has little bits of newspaper remnants clinging to the seams although sadly not big enough to read.

A couple of the fabrics have slightly ripe and holes have started to appear but i think this just adds to the beauty, I was wondering if it could maybe made from feed sacks I don’t really know how to tell,

I noticed that some of the fabric pieces are joined as to make a piece big enough to fit the pattern they must have used every little scrap available in those days we are so lucky we live in days of plenty and little scraps just get thrown to the side and maybe even binned

I was thinking of framing one of the pieces

Its seems a long time since my camera & I spent time together in the great out doors

I have been spending much to much time with my crafting as lately

this morning I just happened to visit my Buddie Lynn's new photo blog Ashleigh Lynn and saw her lovely photos that she has enhanced with the wonderful textures from Kim Klassen
Thank you girls you got my creative juices flowing again & out came my camera to capture some pretties from my garden for Texture Tuesday

and here are my first creations! using Kim's free textures,

I know I have a long way to go but I did enjoy making them

I do love foxgloves

and the yellow iris you can see to the left of the image above was a gift from my little boy Sam

he brought it with his pocket money & it has a smells of apricot sorbet

when I go outside the back door in the morning & evening the smell of the apricot & my honeysuckle are just heavenly

Made a little boot brooch

Pincushions you can never have to many!

I love making them I never want to get rid of them after I make them

so I now have a mountain of them on the craft room shelve

the good thing is they look really neat all stacked up LOL

I have been on chicken watch today we have a naughty fox snooping around and I don't want my lovely hens to end up as his dinner

I also noticed the eggs went missing yesterday including the china fake egg that supposed to feel the girls into laying

So i was spying from around the shed & spied the culprit!

I think Summer is on its way

the swallows arrived back a week ago I always look forward to them returning each year although it is sad that another year has passed & I am another year older!

I have been busy this last few weeks Mum managed to break her leg & has been in plaster for a few weeks and Sam my 13 year old has been in Hospital with a huge Abscess on his face, We have to go back to outpatients tomorrow for a check up & hopefully his face will soon be back to normal,

Went walking in the woods on Saturday the Rhododendrons are starting to flower

Here he is hiding his poorly face and waiting patiently with an empty tummy to go in to theatre

Long Time no see

Hello Girls long time no see!

Well I have been busy this last few weeks, We have been lambing here on the farm and only have about 50 to go now so things are slowing down and we have time to take a breather,

My mind wonders straight to the craft room and I have been learning to digitize embroidery designs I love the hand look & am trying to get that look with the machine I am sure I will master it some time soon

below are a few I did this weekend bear in mind I am learning so they may be not so perfect but we all have to start stemware from some graphics I purchased from

The corset is from a set by Blackleaf Design

I had the good fortune of going to the NEC in Birmingham on Friday to the sewing & craft show we got there before the doors opened,

9.30 open it was quiet & we had time to look around before the crowds descended,what a wonderful day I had! it was fantastic all sorts of everything from fashion/fabric/paper crafts & Embroidery machines that make you so envious I want them all!

got lots of brochures & money off coupons the only thing that stopped me spending was the fact I could not carry any more LOL

Lambs & things

It is that time of year again here on the farm baby Lambs are starting to arrive and sleepless nights are something we have to get used of over the next few weeks

I did manage to get a bit of sewing done over the last couple of days

I made myself a new shoulder bag from a Vogue pattern

it has lots of roomy side pockets inside

and the fabric is a nice fine linen in light fawn color with a soft rose print

And here is a little lamb fresh from the barn!

I went shopping for some fabric yesterday

I found some really nice co ordinating shabby blue cotton fabric see below

and a very patriotic creation was born!

I added little buttons to fasten the overlap

and a removable inner pad for ease of washing

and a little embroidered cushion with a sweet vintage girl on the front

Fat as a Pudding

Hello again

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas,

I am feeling fat and round just like a figgy pudding {:O)

all I want to do now is slim back down so my waistline stops pinching!

We are still covered in the white stuff here in Herefordshire and its talking of a few more inches tonight,

I had some lovely craft books for Christmas one being from my daughter Sophie the book is by Cath Kidstone that includes the fabric to make a bag! I love it,

Life has carried on here on the farm over Christmas Sheep & Chickens to be feed & watered

tomorrow we have the scanner man coming to scan the ewes to see if they are having twins or singles and sometimes triplets,

we did have one that had five one year & they all survived with a little help from us with the bottle,

Yes More Snow

Yes more snow!

In fact it just does not seem to stop snowing at all, I have a few fresh photos to show I think I am getting snow blind! Just joking,

Just a few pictures of everyday things taken at 6 am this morning,

I really don’t know when this bad weather is going to stop it is taking us all our time just trying to keep the sheep feed and the water tanks running we keep having to boil a very large kettle of hot water to pour over the water pipes in the tanks so the sheep can drink,

Yesterday we had one hell of a time trying to get back home after venturing out to get sheep feed in the truck, the 8 ton lorry load we had ordered two weeks ago just cant get up the hill to deliver here,

Roads are so bad with no salt on them we spent ages helping a delivery van that come to a slippery standstill blocking the road, thank god we have four wheel drive on the truck but even that struggled to tow this poor man & his van,

We did try the pushing by hand method first but it was so slippery under foot we could not get a foot hold he then started sliding backwards so we jumped out of his way fast & decided it was not a good idea to push from behind!

By this time we where covered in the cold mucky slush that his wheels had chucked back at us ! But we managed to get him on his way eventually,

We then had to fill bags of salt from a salt bin we came across that still had a bit left in it,

Hubby & I salted part of the lane that leads up to the farm but we still have a very steep up hill half a mile farm track that we have to endeavour before we get to our house,

That was yesterday today we have to try & go get more feed from the feed merchants but it is still snowing outside

Well we have another load of snow today 8" & still falling

I am starting to get really fed up now,

I am awaiting my little lads Christmas present in the post it was sent over a week ago by 48 hour delivery & still no sign of anything arriving

I have enquired but I just get a automated reply back {:0(

I was also expecting a pre owned Embroidery machine to arrive next Tuesday, I received an email yesterday from the seller with news I just did not want to hear,

the delivery driver had dropped the parcel on the road picked it up put it in the back of his van and drove off,

Good thing they saw everything through the window!

They got on the phone to the delivery firms depot,

Then had to make the journey to the depot to check the contents of the box only to find a badly damaged embroidery machine {:0(

to say I am feeling pig sick would be an understatement!

The driver did come clean & admit he had dropped the parcel but why did he not just go back to the house & tell the sender what he had done!

I had a full refund for the machine but my poor seller now has to get compensation from the delivery company,

I am really glad in a way that she saw it happen or I would have received the machine broken & that would have really made my Christmas,

So no pressie for me this Christmas & fingers crossed for Sam's arriving in time

Crafting for Christmas

Sewing makes me feel so relaxed

What a way to get the Christmas presents made no mad rushing around the shops just me & my sewing machine, Abba's greatest hits & fairytale of New york playing on iTunes in the background

Presents for the ladies this year are mostly with a teapots theme

But for one shoe mad Lady we have shoes

I think we should all have a go at making Christmas gifts instead of the shop brought version I know which one I would rather,

Shame no one in my family is creative besides me

Last year I made big hampers of home made candy for everyone

best bit was I could lick the spoon clean after making the fudge & coconut ice!

Although I did feel a little sick by the time I had finished!

Ice Crystals

This is what we had yesterday

Ice Crystals like I had never seen before, some sticking up as much as 1" off the surface it all made a really magical scene

I tried to get a close up of natures wonderful works of art

the crystals below had the sun shining through them making them glow so beautifully

if only I could save them to decorate the house with this christmas

Update on the snow

I cant begin to tell you how cold it is here in Herefordshire

We have been the lucky ones so far with only small amount of snow but the rest of the UK are having it really bad

The wind is really strong & is blowing the the snow making the frozen ground show through

it is hard to keep your eyes open when out as the snow & wind blasts you in the face & makes you feel so numb a few minuets out with the camera was enough for me today,

My poor hubby spends all day out in it tending the sheep

he says he puts a bale out & turns to get another & they have just about finished the first one

poor girls must me famished

The house looks so bleak today

its like iron under foot and the wind is soo cold

I was looking through my old craft room photos today and thought I would include a few

this is a little felt pin keeper I made with some scraps of felt & a few old buttons

I love the colors in this one

made from Laura Ashley fabric & filled with sand to keep your pins sharp

Love Banner For You

I have made this printable banner for you

it is a pdf file and it is free for your personal use

HERE

To make your banner you will need four A4 size thick paper or light weight card

a length of ribbon or gold/silver cord to hang

scissors to cut your banner out & a hole punch to make the holes to thread your cord through

Print out the four sheets

cut out each banner

use your hole punch to make 2 holes in each banner piece I have marked the position for you with a dot!

Thread each piece on to the cord making sure you have them in the correct order

when threading go in through the front with your cord first that way your cord will be hidden at the back of each banner piece

{Idea}

You can decorate your banner to pretty it up with touch of glitter!

PS, I would love to see a picture of your completed banner

I have been quiet this last week or two

Local Show

I have had such a wonderful day today

I went to our local show that is held on a large field just out side kington

It has rained for a couple of days & it made the going rather muddy but I enjoyed it just the same

Met some lovely Herefordshire's the cattle of the County that I live in

But the most exciting bit was that this year I plucked up the courage to put some of my work in the show in the craft section,

that is a first for me & I was really nervous as to not making the grade but chose four pieces that I thought might be suitable

Well not to worry as I was over when the judging was over & we were let back in the tent

Freehand machine embroidery

Made this little freehand embroidered needle case today

printed some vintage images of an old letter & a photo of a pretty lady from my collection

onto some ink jet fabric with the printer

Hand dyed some ribbon & some fabric in a lovely turquoise shade, inspired by Pat Winters lovely dyed ribbons!

Added a few bits to add a bit of interest and ribbon ties

Some pretty rosebud fabric was the perfect pink to go with the turquoise

I have been sewing this morning it has been a really rainy Friday here in the UK so I locked myself in the sewing room!

I made this pretty full size Cushion

I machine embroidered the lovely Crinoline lady that I purchased from a wonderful Site called Eileensdigi delights this lady has some wonderful machine embroidery designs

I picked colors out of the fabric to use in the embroidery

although you cant see it in the pictures I free hand quilted the patterned fabric with a stipple design

I finished off the back with a center opening fastened with large linen buttons

Scissor Case Day

That was Scissor case not head case {:0)

although with the kids home I sometimes wonder!

Found this little pattern on the Pfaff sewing machine site & decided to have a go making it

I sorted in my boxes & found a little square of natural linen so I decided to use it for this little project

I embroidered it on my trusty sewing machine it took a couple of hours but I did get interrupted a few times by I'm starving mum!

after food & drinks served to the the hungry I got back to work

but not until

I ate chocolate instead of my usual salad and bang goes my waistline again {:0(

I lined it with a little bit of curtain lining and added a tassel on the bottom

a little popper to fasten & hay presto a scissor keeper

I have been walking around the farm this morning

I stopped by & helped hubby & Sam my youngest for an hour,

they are repairing some of the old walls around the farm

I got the picture below just as they were taking a breather

over the hedge on the left just out of sight are the remains of an old cottage that used to house a family with 10 children

Ours are not just perfect they have spots & blemishes but I love them just the same,

The colours are so pretty they look as good as a piece of hand dyed satin ribbon or lace,

I have an old school teachers desk with a green leather top in the center of the room you can just see it at the bottom, well I was going to get rid of it but I am going to keep it as it will make a great sewing table & it looks good too!

I am starting to put things into the cupboards I feel somewhat overwhelmed by having such a room,

I almost don't want to put things in the cupboards & on the shelves as I don't want it to get like my old craft room

The other wall has the computers & printers all with same cupboards & mega long work top desk area I will get some pictures when that side is sorted,

I feel really proud of myself doing this all single handed although it has been tough going I have really enjoyed the experience,

I now want to live in my craft room forever!

I forgot to say the words The Craft Room on the wall is a mural

My Craft room is killing me

well maybe not actually me but it is destroying my creativity!

It is a tip and every time a want to craft or sew I have to look for a space to work & by the time I have cleared a space & found what I need I just about lose interest!

My fingers are itching to sew again & my heart races when I see what some of my lovely crafty friends are making,

I have decided to redesign my craft room

Yes you heard right it is a big job

Paint is being applied & units built so if I go quiet for a while its cos I am in DIY mode

I have to move all the Cxxp from one side of the room to the other so i can paint it a bit at a time {:0(

I must say the bit I have repainted is looking really nice it is a sort of pale duck egg with ivory units I cant wait to show you!

Photo Restoration

My Mum got out her old photo box the other day it brought back a lots of wonderful memories

sadly over the years some of our lovely memories have got damaged & faded,

I offered to take some of the photos home & restore them for my Mum, I also took the opportunity to make so reprints to share with my brother & sister

The picture below is one of myself & my brother that was badly yellowed & faded

Just a few tweaks & a brighten up was enough for this one and it came up a treat

This one of Mum & my aunt was quite badly damaged this one took a wee bit of time to bring back to life

The picture above is one an old family photo of my mum & aunt with their father who sadly was killed in WW1 shortly after this photo was taken so sadly I never knew him but as a child often visited his grave with Mum to take flowers

Mum often talks of her sweet Daddy telling long faded misty memories that she plucked from deep inside her mind no doubt with a sprinkling of imagination like only a child could,

She was only 4 when he passed

she said he was the sweetest man in the world but I suppose most Daddies are

Feeling Soft & Pink Today

Today I have been in a creative mood

Sun has been shining so I took some of my crafting goodies down into the garden & made some pretty Rosettes

using crepe paper that I had already gathered on the sewing machine I punched out some scalloped round shapes from card & some nice old type from an old book that I use for crafting

I carefully glued the gathered crepe paper around the scalloped card circle

added the old book paper & a vintage image to the top & finished it off with a crown & some pretty ribbon & flowers
Made this one in the same way but to the crepe paper ruffle I added old paper again from my trusty old book and made a wee little cone to hold some tiny millinery flowers

Cute don't you think!

Tuesday I was very excited to be able to visit the home of local lady sculptor named Miranda Michels who lives just up the road from our farm,

When driving up the long drive to Miranda's home nestled between rolling hills & an abundance of hedgerows covered in mayflower all making a stunning backdrop for her work,

looking to the left you are meet by a full size horse complete with rider dressed in full hunting regalia galloping towards you at great speed,

a little further up the field are group of deer with large antlers all neatly penned in behind a hurdle fence! not to foil a great escape but to keep the sheep from rubbing against them & spoiling the patina of the gently rusted metals,

to the right are two giant dancing hares standing proudly on hind legs and a flock of sheep sculptures looking so natural with real sheep happily mingling amongst them

into the garden we are met by more wonders perfectly formed Pheasants perching on old farm implements

I could not resist a close up of this wonderful full size horse

The Hunt! just look at the movement in the one, I particularly love the way the coat is bellowing in the breeze

The fox

playfully jumping as if to pounce on some unsuspecting grasshopper or frog

Miranda treated us to a peek into her workshop where all these wonderful pieces come to life,

Sadly she was nursing a badly bruised hand that had had a disagreement with a falling oxyacetylene tank Ouch!

I was particularly taken by the newly finished life size wren sat on the handle of an old garden folk that would have looked a treat in my garden!

Kingfisher perched on life size water reeds and life size jumping Salmon that are intended to be positioned in a stream or water feature all in all a really magical place

What makes this all the more fascinating is Miranda has no formal qualifications & is completely self taught she works in an old farm building and her work space is a mess Her words not mine

But what wonders grow from chaos

Its Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK

and it is raining

This last couple of weeks i have been so busy decorating the hall & landing of our house that dates back to the 1690s
as you can imagine the plaster was very aged & staring to come away from the walls so we had to have it re plastered the pictures below show it as the work was in progress wooden paneling I have stripped of its layers of paint ghastly greens & browns that the Victorians so loved

my hands are feeling so sore from sandpapering & constant washing

if you could have seen me painting the ceiling with a shower cap covering my hair as not to get splattered in paint

As you may know I am married to a farmer & he is not at all interested in decorating & to be honest he is better off staying out of the way where decorating is concerned as he would probably end up with a paint pot on his head LOL

I am painting the walls in Buttermilk! this I chose from matching the old plaster wall color that seemed to just suit the area so well and gives it a lovely warm feel

the carpet is the old 100% wool Axminster but it has to stay as it cost such a lot & is still has a lot of life in it yet

Hello again long time no see!

Well Lambing is all but over for another year thank goodness, My thoughts are turning to gardening now as the nights are lighter & buds are starting to appear on the plants & trees,
Daffodils in bloom & snowdrops nearly over I cant wait for May & June to arrive,

I don't know if any of you Saw my Sweet Marie Poster that I made from a piece of my altered art
Here it is on my craftroom wall,
it is made from 9 sheets of A4 paper that I taped together with invisible sticky tape

Stopped for a rest but not for long!

Well I have had a busy few weeks here on the farm with the lambing, we have got over 500 so far and have just got the second lot of lambers into the barns ready for lap 2

We are having a well earned rest for a couple of days or so until the next lot of new Mums start producing babies

Wonderful Gift

Yesterday after a hard cold morning outside in the lambing shed I came in to have a well earned cup of tea & what a treat the postman had left for me,

I was so excited I sat down at the table & with my lovely little package that was sent to me as a gift by the wonderful artistic Pat Winter of the Gatherings

Pat does the most stunning work & her blog is well worth a visit

isn't it just wonderful

the detail on this lovely pendent is just incredible it must have taken ages to make

The back is just as pretty

It has the most exquisite ribbon flowers vintage lace, tiny bead & a tiny winy gold heart, the whole contents of the front of the pendent are in silks/fabrics it is stunning, the more I look the more detail I see

he packaging was just as exiting with a wonderful stitched pocket containing he gift safely wrapped in bubble wrap

This little package traveled half way around the world to get to me & it arrived perfect

Thank you so much Pat for this wonderful gift

the keepers have been such a hot line since I introduced them in 2007 first making & selling them as keepers sold in packs ready to use & also some containing vintage lace

since then I have had so many requests for more styles & sizes

so I have decided to start making them again but now I am selling a digital version that you can print & cut yourself, this saves on the postage & time.
